How did you first get into skating?

While studying at university I got a flyer from a derby player on the street. Went and saw their game and figured I could do what they were doing and be pretty good at it. This was during the time when I was looking for a new hobby as I had started teaching more dance than actually performing.

How would you describe your skating style / What type of skating do you like to do?

When people watch me skate they often see my dance background come into play. My movements are fluid and look effortless. My skating shows off my strength, agility and sometimes flexibility quite well. I have always been a jammer since playing roller derby, I love to block and especially pivot but my talent is in jamming with my juking, jumping, changing speeds, powerful hits and generally being unpredictable to block.

What inspires you?

So many things! My heart is so warm from people doing things that you never thought could actually be done. Doing the impossible!

I believe that you can never be 'just like' one person. So I love to take little snippets from so many places to be inspired for skating. I watch men's derby, love gymnastics, dance and generally amazing people doing amazing things. I have a soft spot for talent shows where that unpredictable person has this AMAZING talent to do something great!

How did you get involved with Bayside Blades?

Since moving to Melbourne in 2016 Bayside have been helping me get the right gear and providing me advice with the right setups. I know I can depend on them to have the right equipment that I need for derby and you always meet someone new in the derby community when you visit their store.

I've been to a few of their skate meetups as well. The outdoor skate is so nice in the evenings if your new to skating and want to see the Melbourne sights.

Current Skate Set up:

Here’s a run down of what gear I am using:

S-One helmet

S-One knee pads

187 wrist guards (with cute sweat bands)

187 Slim elbow pads

Dental mouthguard

Custom bonts

Falcon Pilot plates

Poison Savant wheels

Bont jesa swiss bearings

Crazy Bounce toe stops

Atom backpack

Atom trolley bag

Favourite Skaters:

My whole team! Really they do inspire me every session to be better without them I would not strive to be the best that I can.

I also love Miss Tea Maven, Sausarge Rolls, Mr Testosterone, Wilhelm and during her time Satan's Little Helper.

Favourite places to skate:

Polished concrete floors, in a nice cool temperature with the derby clock in full view. You'll be surprised that this doesn't happen too often.

Other interests:

Dance has and always will be part of my life. I love contemporary and do sneak in some practice from time to time. I also do practice ballet for cross training.

Video games are great and also reading books.
